Can you get a mortgage on a log home?

Banks and lenders in general are now less risk averse to self-build but unlike lending to purchase a conventional home, a self-build project is at best, a set of drawings and a collection of ideas.


The situation has improved in recent years, partly as a result of government initiatives to empower those wishing to self-build by removing some of the hurdles faced previously. Then projects with a high level of environmental factors in their favour are also beginning to see favour from lenders and here log cabins score highly.


Affordabilty and a high end value will be key factors in the lenders list of key requirements and there are certain elements within a project for a log home that might be favoured over a one-off self-build.
